My Great day in New York

Thanks to my friend Collin I was able to see one of the great museums of art in the world next to my favorite place Musee D'orsay .he day started out not the best because someone, Collin, told me not to eat breakfast. He said I had to save my hunger for Hala. He was totally right. It was the best rice taziki sauce and gyro I have ever had, and I am a big fan of gyros. Then we spent hours just wandering the museum seeing everything painting and sculpture sometimes laughing and sometimes just starring at the painting taking in the art.

The day got even better. after watching a episode of Kitchen Nightmares about a brick oven pizza place I had an overwhelming craving for pizza and a place called Grimaldi's. After waiting in line outside and then waiting for our pizza I was soo hungry. The pizza was totally worth it.

Company Baseball Game

I have a great internship. I got to go to my first professional baseball game. A Mets game!! When we got there it was beautiful the sun was out and it wasn't too hot and there was food and beer for everyone. Thanks to Linda and Vicha. By the time the game started it was 9 pm and I was already ready to go home. It did get better the more beer Erin bought me. it was a game with fireworks and in the middle of the firework show the music stopped and we could tell there was a technical problem. We all looked at each other and said "It's just like one of our gigs" it was funny we all started laughing. I think that is the only problem with working on events is that you see every problem that happens during an event where as most people don't even notice.

Engadget show

I love trade shows but I never knew how much work it was to put one together from start to finish in one day. I showed up at 8 but people got there at 6am. Furiture was there, party rental was there and after being there for an hour so was the frieght for the rest of the show. The facility was on the bottom floor of the building and to get there you have to go down a flieght of stairs. there was one elevator operated by an old small asian man. the frieght was carried up and down from the street level then put to the appropriate booth. figuring out what booth things went to was hard because they weren't clearly labeled with the booth number or name of vendor. so we had to search thorough the various labels on the boxes to find where they go.

After this there were trips back and forth from best buy to get small parts for the tvs and other small things for exhibitors. as the show started I was selling drink tickets which weren't selling as expected mostly because the whole space was filled a lot of nerds. in addition there wasn't any food I would have much rather had food than drinks. The only food was a asian inspired taco truck outside which was really good. then things started to load out I left around 11 which was find because I was back in soho at 8 the next morning.

Are some events worth all the work?

In the last few days I have been working on a project for a client's 70th birthday party. after spending a whole day scanning and one and a half days organizing and editing then a day putting all these photos into  power point and movie to display during her birthday party. Is it worth the hours of work for a two hour event.

The last few days

I haven’t done anything super exciting lately but I have done a lot of really cool small things. Now that it is official I can tell you that Madonna has hired us to show teasers of her new movie MDMA. It is really exciting but better not turn out like the Kanye West job. Which by the way is over after tonight.
I am Really glad about that. Our team didn’t have much time to scout out locations and find people to run the equipment and drive vans around to US. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian had their baby on Sunday, a baby girl. I think Erin had a great idea about how to release the name of the baby to the world. Instead of playing the regular “New Slaves” video we show a picture of the baby with the name. unfortunatly Kanye didn’t have the same idea. Instead he plays some video with Scott Deistic doing some American Psyco video, needless to say I haven’t seen it.
But some other interesting things have happened. I worked on an event for Erin. It was a surprise 70th birthday party. The décor and food were amazing. My job was to take a car service to Dumbo, Brooklyn and pick up a crock en buche then go to party city and pick up napkins and regular sized spoons.

The bakery that I went to was a small French place. The chef was very French, I am French but this guy had the accent and everything. What he made was beautiful in the shape of a tower was cream-puffs with vanilla or mocha cream covered in a honey sugar to make it stick together Then in addition to that there were sugar pieces attached. It was beautiful. The chef helped me put it in the car and off we went to party city.

The Made in NY Awards

I know it is Wednesday but I just complied all the photos and videos from The Made in NY Awards.

This was a great event and learning experience my only wish is that it wasn't raining all day. I was late getting out of the house and came all the way from my home in Flemington to my office in Williamsburg. By the time I got there it was 10 and I had to be in the city at 12. So I spent my time resting and getting directions.

It rained and rained as I was walking from the subway to Gracie Mansion, thank god I brought my rain boots from home. Of course my luck gracie mansion was the farthest you can be from the subway. the grounds were beautiful it was almost like I was back in a park in Flemington. The house is a southern victorian house with a wrap around deck. The event was outside under a tent so I didn't get to go inside.

The tent was already set up when I got there. the people that were working the sound were there and working on setting benches and tables for guests. When the truck got to Gracie mansion we unloaded and I set myself the task of setting up the tent behind the tent to hold the lighting equipment. and of course as I was doing this it was raining.

After working on other odds and ends I was sent to get everyone lunch. The production assistants were all soaking wet from the rain and hungry coffee, tea and sandwiches were necessary. Brought back granola bars, sandwiches and 6 cups of hot beverages. In my head I was thinking how am I going to walk all of this back to Gracie Mansion. The solution was very innovated  The small asian women behind the counter put the cups into small paper bags and then into large paper bag. I walked about two blocks and nothing in the bag spilled.

After everyone had a much needed lunch, everything came together. A photo booth was set up cupcakes setup and lights ready to go then we just waiting until the guests arrive.

That was it then the event started we got to see some awesome people. Here are pictures and videos from that night.

Crazy Event Clients

I know I haven't posted in a while but I thought it was time for an update while I have a few mintutes.

I recently went on a little adventure for a client of Erin's. The client is holding a party and wanted sandwiches from a specific store cut a certain way. Think of the most picky person every times it by ten and that describes most event clients. By the way this client also wanted us to find ice cream cones that are 1 1/2 inches tall. If you can't image how tall this is just take a ruler and look how small an 1 1/2 inches is, give you a hint it is super tiny.

So my adventure was to go to this store and pick up sandwiches so Erin can see if they can be cut in the right way. I get off the train and start walking I walk all the way to the store and get there pick up the sandwich and get myself some food (a perk of doing this arran for Erin. Then there was getting home.

Of course New York there aren't any hills right? You would be wrong. The only hill on the upper east side was going back to the train. By the time I got back to my apartment it was 8 o'clock and I then went straight to bed.

This is the market we went to.

I got a Fishy!!

So while cleaning/ organizing the warehouse I took one of the fishbowls that we use for decorating home and I told myself I was going to get a fish. That night I went to the local pet store and picked up a beta fish and some things to put in the tank. When my roommate saw him she couldn't have been more excited to see a little fish in our room. She told me that she had never had a pet before even a fish.

Here is a picture of our little pet. I have not come up with a name yet so feel free to leave a comment below I might think about it.

My First Event Set Up

For my first event set-up I went to the Russian Tea Room. The event was for the Columbia engineering school class of 1962. We had two TVs and one mic to set up it was pretty simple. I think my favorite Part was getting to see the different rooms in the facility. This event was in the Hearth Room it was at the top floor.
The next floor down was a slightly larger room covered with mirrors with etched bears on them.
Then my Favorite floor was the second floor. It looked like it came right out of the great Gatsby. There were two large elements in the room. A large clear hollow bear and a gold tree with hanging eggs.
These rooms are all small and long and for Wizard Studios there isn't much for us to do in these rooms. Mostly small stages, microphones and maybe a few televisions. It was my first time seeing an event getting set up and great time.

My First Day At Wizard Studios

I know you guys have all been wondering what I have been doing at Wizard studios well today I finaly have time today to write about it.

My first day at internship was Friday May 24. I walked into the warehouse at 9 am Caryn walked in, she gave me and Linda ( my fellow intern) a tour right away.

The warehouse us a work in progress but one that when it's done is going to be great. There is an office space and my boss's office that is under construction at the moment. Down the stairs is split into three sections. A large sound stage, warehouse space, kitchen, meeting room, and lounge. I hope that I will be here long enough to see the project completed.

My first job was to find a black panel van in Houston, TX. You would think that would be easy right call a rental company and get a rental car. It is not easy though the standard for renting vans is white. Also if you think about it if you were living in Texas would you want a black van.

This van is for a large marketing campian for Kanye West. He wanted to premire his new music video (new slaves) on buildings all over the world. Our job is to cordinate the whole campain. We scout the locations then send out people to project this video. A few cities were not receptive to Kanye's message. Cities would try to stop the projections. Here is the video.

Salute to our Soldiers

The event today was small but very interesting. I got there around 7:30 there wasn't much to do. The event was on the Intrepid Air and Space Museum. It was a great experiance to see all the veterans and service men and women there to honor them. After the short ceremony I explored the museum. The only thing that I was disappointed about was that the space shuttle wasn't open.

I was lucky to also to be able to take the short bus ride to Brandon's house and have a home cooked meal with friends. I got to make some new friends Meg and Joey. Billy , I didn't forget you it was great to see you everyone and get away from Brooklyn for the afternoon.

The First Event

Today is my first day at an event I am mostly scared I am getting lost. I have been reading about Kanye west and the responses on twitter. some of them are interesting. Some of them are interesting. some people think that Kanye is actually going to be at the locations. For some police are getting a whiff of what is going to happen and canceling it. I think that means that we have to get better at not telling them where we are going to be. ut if they catch out guys we will have to get them bailed out of jail i think we should let Kanye's people deal with that.

My Odd but Great Apartment

When I was looking for apartments in brooklyn the first place I looked was craig's list and I have found a great place in Bed-Stuy. the neighborhood is nice other than the fact that I am one of few white crayons in a Box full of dark ones. There are some advantages to being out of place. the security guards and police that are around here all notice me and if suddenly I wasn't there anymore I think they would wonder "where did the red hed white green go?". Then there is my apartment surrounded by a church parking lot and the old stone building. When you walk in the first thing you notice when you open the door is that you turn the knob to the right. That might not seem odd but think back to every time you opened a door you opened it to the left and all the doors in the apartment are that way even the bathroom. Then there is the sink in the bathroom the knob that is hot is marked with a "C" and the knob that is cold is marked with a "H". Odd right?
More updates on my projects at Wizard Studios and some of the really cool things we are doing there.

UPDATE: I have realized recently that the door to my room is upside down.

My First Day out and about

My mom was here to drop me off and today we decided to make a trial run to my internship location. It didn't go just as planned. Started off great found the subway and thats where the good part of my day ended. we got on the train going in the wrong direction then getting in the right direction we get to where the GPS said the office was it was a waste management facility. Not where we supposed to be and after going around and around the blocks I check the website and saw that the address i though i was going to was the wrong address. After walking around all of the warehouse part of Brooklyn we finally found the right address then the ordeal of going back to my apartment. this was much easier than getting there. In-between the subway stop at the office I lost my one month unlimited metro card. O great then my mom gets suck in traffic and at night. As the day comes to a close it has been getting better. I got food and found out I got sunburn on my shoulders and can only hope this summer is going to get better. Tomorrow is my first day at Wizard Studios and the start of a new chapter in my life.
